"Almost Spring Concert” with the Arlington-Belmont Chorale and Chamber Chorus

Presented by Philharmonic Society of Arlington at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, Arlington

The two Choruses have prepared a program of four gorgeous Romantic classics and one inventive new work.  The best known of these Romantic works is Nanie by Johannes Brahms, a lushly beautiful setting of a poem by Friedrich Schiller which celebrates the end of life as a step into a new, more peaceful world.  The theme of celebration of life continues with Robert Schumann’s Requiem fur Mignon, with text by the poet Johann von Goethe.  In this lively tribute to youth and joy, the chorus is joined by soloists including soprano Kennedy McAlister, who also serves as Assistant Conductor.  The program also includes two shorter Romantic works: As Torrents in Summer by Edward Elgar, and Christus factus est by Anton Bruckner. The Chamber Chorus will present a newly commissioned work, Spacetime Synthesis, by Morgan Jackson. Spacetime Synthesis is a set of three pieces for chorus, flute, clarinet, and piano. The texts and pieces observe the worlds of mathematics, nature, and physics from very different viewpoints.

This concert is supported in part by a grant from the Arlington Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council.
