Come hear the musical stories from the World Expositions of Paris, London, New York, Chicago, and bring fresh ears to how we might reflect on these today.
The World Exhibitions have been important intersections of music and culture, exposing people to the most diverse soundscapes they have ever experienced. Showcasing new music and celebrating musical heritage simultaneously, the fairs also featured musicians from many cultures and countries, challenging perceptions that redrew boundaries of musical experience.
The journey begins in the late 19th century, where the world's musics collided and new works showcased the talent of the time. From Paris we see that everything old is new again, and New York- we learn that it really is a small world, after all. And what would be the freshest sounds of our time? We'll explore this and more through music and storytelling.
