World Wildlife Day

Presented by Franklin Park Zoo at Franklin Park Zoo

Celebrate World Wildlife Day at Franklin Park Zoo! In honor of Leap Day, we’re focusing species that have an extra spring in their step, such as the ring-tailed lemur or the bouncy red kangaroo.

Head over to the Outback Trail and meet the bouncy kangaroo mob. Did you know that the red kangaroo is the largest of all marsupials, with powerful legs that can propel it up to speeds of 40 miles per hour? These animals, which use their powerful tails for balance when they hop, can bound nearly 25 feet in a single jump!

After seeing the kangaroos, warm up with our ring-railed lemurs inside the always balmy Tropical Forest. Learn fun facts, like how lemurs have opposable digits on their feet, allowing them to move nimbly through the trees. Learn more about these amazing animals from our expert zookeepers during scheduled zookeeper chats. For more fun facts, stop by the education table inside the Tropical Forest, and don’t miss the opportunity to make your own kangaroo pouch at the craft table!
