The Chelmsford Community Band is proud to announce its first concert under its new director, Eric Linsner.  The Winter Concert will start at 2pm on Sunday, March 15, at the Chelmsford Senior Center on Groton Road in North Chelmsford.  The program contains a little bit of everything for the fan of wind band repertoire, including pieces by Grainger, Copland, and Vaughn-Williams.  It will also mark the kickoff of a fundraising campaign to prepare for the upcoming celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary in just two years.

The band’s new director Linsner is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and Cambridge College with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education.  He has been a band director in the Chelmsford school system for more than twenty years and an instructor in the UMass Lowell marching band since 2001. He is also a familiar face in the CCB; he first joined the ensemble as a percussionist in 2004, has served as band president, and has been a long-time alumni of the CCB’s brass sections in both the concert band on trumpet and jazz ensemble on trumpet and trombone.  As a band veteran, Linsner has deep knowledge of what has maintained the group’s sense of musical fellowship for nearly 50 years and where both strengths and areas of improvement can be found. When speaking of what he anticipates in his tenure as director, he said that there is a special level of commitment when adults take time out of their busy lives to devote a few hours a week making music together, and to work with a group bringing that to each rehearsal brings a whole new set of rewards.

The Chelmsford Community Band was founded in 1972 and is a volunteer group of adult musicians who greatly enjoy bringing live music to the greater Chelmsford area.  The concert band and jazz ensemble both perform several concerts throughout the year and on Chelmsford Common every summer.
