Brookline Symphony Orchestra: 10th Anniversary Celebration

Brookline Symphony Orchestra: 10th Anniversary Celebration

Presented by Brookline Symphony Orchestra at All Saints Parish Brookline

The Brookline Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Andrew Altenbach proudly celebrate the orchestra’s 10th anniversary season at All Saints Parish, March 14-15, 2020. This concert will feature special guest Peter Stumpf performing Samuel Barber’s Cello Concerto, as well as Dvorak’s New World Symphony.

The Brookline Symphony Orchestra originated in the 1950s to bring classical music to the community. In 2010 a group of friends brought together by their passion for classical music revived the organization to make it an integral part of the Brookline community and beyond. Its vision is to present concerts of the highest quality and enrich the life of the community through classical music through affordable performances and outreach events. The orchestra’s members are talented musicians—amateur, student and professional—who volunteer their time to create an organization of which Brookline can be proud.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of its revival, the Brookline Symphony Orchestra is excited to perform back-to-back concerts with soloist Peter Stumpf. Stumpf is professor of cello at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Prior to his appointment, he was the principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 9 years following a 12 year tenure as Associate Principal Cellist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Also on the program is Antonin Dvorak’s iconic Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” The piece’s popularity has persisted since its Carnegie Hall premiere in 1893, and even earned a trip on the Apollo 11 mission Moon landing with astronaut Neil Armstrong.
