Margam at The Dance Complex

Margam at The Dance Complex

Presented by The Dance Complex at The Dance Complex

Margam seeks to introduce audiences to Bharathanatyam, a Classical Indian Dance style that originated in the temples of South India, through the vehicle of the margam, the traditional format for a repertory performance. A margam serves both as the framework for a dancer’s education in the art form and as a metaphor for the soul’s journey to the divine.

Anagha Sundararajan is a dancer and choreographer who has trained in the Kalakshetra style of Bharathanatyam under Guru Sushmita Arunkumar. She completed her Arangetram, or classical dance debut, in 2011 and, since then, she has also trained in the Jaipur and Lucknow schools of Kathak under Gurus Gauri Jog and Jayanthi Sundararajan. Anagha has performed across the Midwest as an independent artist, with Nrithyanjali School of Dance, and with her collective, LEELA. Vivek Ramanan is a dancer and choreographer of the South Indian classical dance style of Bharatanatyam. He is also trained as a South Indian classical percussionist in mridangam, the double-headed pitched drum, and in konnakol, or vocal percussion. He started his training in dance with Smt. Madhusri Sethuraman, continued learning with well-known exponent Smt. Vidhya Subramanianm, and had additional training with Sri. A. Lakshmanaswamy in Chennai.
