David Michael Kenney Sr. plays a program of organ works by women composers, including Diemer, Beach, Boulanger, Schumann, Shepherd and Kim
David Michael Kenney, Sr., is organist at Hampton (NH) United Methodist Church. A Virginia native, he first learned about music from his mother. After his Aunt Jean gave him a piano, David took lessons with Susan Manuel and Claudia Martin. Organ lessons followed with Laura Ellen Wade, Brian Cooley, and Steven Cooksey (Shenandoah Conservatory). At 12, David became a church organist and was the first youth organist for the Virginia United Methodist Annual Conference. He also engaged in intensive study of piano with Jane Magrath, Seymour Bernstein, and Jaime Bolipata and composition with Thomas Albert, David Amram, and Noel Farrand.
David holds degrees in speech pathology from The University of Virginia (B.S.Ed.) and James Madison University (M.S.) and works for Parkland Medical Center (hospital and outpatient clinic) in Derry, New Hampshire.
In recognition of the role of women in his musical development, David will perform organ works by Hensel, Diemer, Boundy, Portman, Beach, Price, Bober, Boulanger, Ashford, Bartholomew, Prestat, Stirling, Schumann, Shepherd and Kim.
