“An Almost Spring Concert” a concert presenting four gorgeous Romantic classics including Nanie by Brahms and Schumann’s Requiem fur Mignon together with a new work, performed by the Arlington – Belmont Chorale and Chamber Chorus.
The Arlington-Belmont Chorale and the Arlington-Belmont Chamber Chorus proudly present four gorgeous Romantic classics and one inventive new work. The best known of these Romantic works is Nanie by Johannes Brahms, a lushly beautiful setting of a poem by Friedrich Schiller which celebrates the end of life as a step into a new, more peaceful world. The theme of celebration of life continues with Robert Schumann’s Requiem fur Mignon, with text by the poet Johann von Goethe. In this lively tribute to youth and joy, the chorus is joined by soloists including soprano Kennedy McAlister, who also serves as Assistant Conductor. The program also includes two shorter Romantic works: As Torrents in Summer by Edward Elgar, and Christus factus est by Anton Bruckner.
The newly commissioned work, Spacetime Synthesis, is composed by Morgan Jackson a former resident of Arlington and French horn player based in New York. The piece is a set of three pieces for chorus, flute, clarinet, and piano. The texts and pieces observe the worlds of mathematics, nature, and physics from very different viewpoints.
Tickets are purchased at the door: General admission is $20, $15 seniors and students, $5 age 17 and under.
