VISION 2020: Pairings & Sides / Flute of Champagne Bubbles

Presented by Music at Eden's Edge at The Barn, Peirce Farm at Witch Hill

Music at Eden’s Edge (www.edensedge.org), is the North Shore's own regional resident chamber music ensemble. Now in its thirty-ninth consecutive year, MEE proudly presents 2020 Vision: Pairings and Sides Lecture/Performance Series, listener friendly concerts which offer an insider’s view on music selected by the performers. Live performances in an intimate space are introduced by the players, offering historic, stylistic and personal insights, all done with a liberal dose of humor and some vigorous dialog. It is a great opportunity to hear rarely-performed classical selections and to learn at the same time. MEE has found our listeners hungry for this experience, and we have enjoyed every year of presenting these unique series.

On Monday, March 2, 2020, MEE will present Flute of Champagne Bubbles, the second program in the 2020 Series, in which we welcome and celebrate the return of the brilliant Duo Zonda, featuring virtuoso flutists Orlando Cela and Wei Zhao. Their previous appearance with MEE was one of the our audience’s best-loved experiences. On the familiar side will be music of Couperin, a Concerto for Two Flutes, and an arrangement of the Scherzo from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Discoveries will include Robert Muczynski’s Duo for Two Flutes and Whirling Dervish, by James Kachulis. On this return engagement Duo Zonda will offer some inviting commentary on their choices of repertoire and variety of flutes, with intriguing background information to give each listener a great handle on the music to be heard.

This group’s presence and performance is a unique experience, filled with musical personality, verve and a sparkling style all their own. It is a uniquely creative collaboration, in which the performers adapt music for their duo and lead the audience in the discovery of new musical directions.
