Jimmy Tingle’s 20/20 Vision: Why Would a Comedian Run For Office?

Jimmy Tingle’s 20/20 Vision: Why Would a Comedian Run For Office?

Presented by Harvard Office for the Arts at Sanders Theatre

Boston’s most famous political comedian, and the winner of Boston Magazine’s “Best of Boston, Stand-Up Comedy”, Jimmy Tingle was also a serious political candidate in 2018, running for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. Why would a comedian run for office? What did he learn to help us keep our sanity through the 2020 election?

Jimmy Tingle’s 20/20 Vision is more than a hilarious comedy show that’s uniquely Boston and brought the audience at the Wilbur Theatre cheering to its feet in December. It’s mental therapy for anyone, of any political view, who needs relief from Twitter and the 24-hour news cycle. With passion, purpose, and on-stage antics, accent, Jimmy recounts the side-splitting tale of diving into the deep end with his 2018 statewide political run, but then transforming, learning, and surviving – with a message for us all.

Through comedy and commentary, Jimmy challenges his audience to think, and then leads them towards hope and positivity at the start of a year when we’ll surely need it. Jimmy Tingle doesn’t just pose questions. He gives the answers – both insightfully real and comically surreal. He reassures us that, Hey! Maybe as a nation we’re going to be okay.

Jimmy has plans to tour the show nationally this election year, so see it now in Boston while you can!

“Mr. Tingle brings so much energy and personal warmth to this nonstop performance that one comes away from it strangely uplifted. He reveals often mortifying absurdities in virtually everything that comes to his attention… Yet he is so cheerfully intelligent that he makes his audience optimistic in the face of appalling reality.”— The New York Times
