Join us for a talk that will examine how the history of the opium trade provides background for understanding today’s opioid crisis.
Frederic Delano Grant, Jr., a Boston-based lawyer who holds a Ph.D. in history, will examine the legality, morality, economics and some lessons to be drawn from the international opium trade from 1700-1900 and more. Learn about the illegal distribution of opium in China by British and American merchants and meet colorful personalities in the trade, including some with ties to Newton. This program is cosponsored by Historic Newton.
