One hour concert featuring cellist Velleda Miragias and pianist Rasa Vitkauskaite performing Beethoven Cello Sonata Op. 5, No. 2 and Rachmaninov Cello Sonata in g minor, Op. 19
On Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 3 pm, the Music Committee of the Friends of the Weston Public Library start the new year off strong with an impressive program. Cellist Velleda Miragias and pianist Rasa Vitkauskaite, will be performing Beethoven Cello Sonata Op. 5, No. 2 and Rachmaninov Cello Sonata in g minor, Op. 19. A reception to meet the artists will follow the one hour concert. The Library is handicapped accessible and the concert is free and no reserved seating so plan to arrive early.
Boston-based cellist Velléda Miragias has received critical acclaim from le Confolentais for her “perfect technical mastery [and] strong emotion,” and currently enjoys a diverse career as a freelance chamber and orchestral musician, educator, and entrepreneur across the United States, Europe, and Asia. A native of Paris, Ms. Miragias holds degrees from the Conservatoire National de Boulogne, Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris rue de Madrid, Indiana University, and Boston University. She is the recipient of France’s coveted Ministry of Culture Award and a first-prize winner of the Prix de la ville d’Epernay string competition.
Hailed for artistry of poetic and observant sensitivity (Gramophone), Rasa Vitkauskaite is an internationally acclaimed, multiple award-winning pianist. She released her debut solo CD Reflections on Ongaku Records, featuring works by Beethoven, Ravel, Guastavino and Liebermann. Fanfare praised her "scintillating pianism" while dubbing her "a Beethoven interpreter of penetrating insight". Current season features the release of her debut concerto CD featuring Mozart’s Concerto No. 20 in D Minor and Beethoven’s Concerto No. 3 in C Minor.
