"East Dances with West" : A Concert of Turkish Tangos, Waltzes and Sirtos

Turkish music was influenced by western forms during late Ottoman Empire and early Turkish Republic times. Even some of the most traditional composers of this era composed instrumental and vocal pieces in such forms with rhythms familiar to western ears but at the same time using traditional Turkish musical modes (makams). In this concert the trio will present some of the prominent examples of Turkish repertoire inspired by Vienna’s waltzes, Argentine tangos and Balkan sirtos.
