The Modernistics: hit songs, tap dance numbers, swinging celebration of the Great American Songbook

The Modernistics are the acclaimed singing and tap-dancing team of Ted and Pamela Powers, with virtuoso jazz musicians Peter H. Bloom on flute, Mark Leighton on guitar, and Dave Zox on double-bass.  The group will make its debut at the Firehouse Center on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm, with exuberant music by Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Dorothy Fields, Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, and other master tunesmiths.  Crowd-pleasing songs and high-energy tap dance numbers will include Sunny Side of the Street, Paper Moon, Bye-Bye Blackbird, Georgia on My Mind, and It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing, plus sizzling bebop tunes by Dexter Gordon and Bud Powell.

The Modernistics have captivated audiences across the Northeast, with shows for The Medallion Opera House, The Great North Woods Center for the Arts, Concord City Auditorium, the Ocean Park Music Festival, The Robert H. Wood Great Artist Series (NY), Middletown Concert Association (CT), Colby College, Nichols College, the West Claremont Center for the Arts, and The Chelmsford Center for the Arts, among others.  The members of the Modernistics have taught and performed extensively in the United States and abroad.
