Opening Celebration: Painting Edo

Join us to celebrate the opening of one of the Harvard Art Museums’ largest ever exhibitions, Painting Edo: Japanese Art from the Feinberg Collection, on view from February 14 through July 26, 2020.

The opening celebration is free to everyone and all galleries are open for guests to explore.

Complimentary parking is available for the opening celebration in the Broadway Garage, 7 Felton Street, Cambridge.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

Open Galleries and Reception, 5 to 9pm
Visit the museums for free and get a first look at Painting Edo, while also taking the opportunity to explore the rest of our collections. All guests are also welcome to enjoy a festive reception in our courtyard and to enjoy the museums at night. No tickets are required.

Opening Lecture, 6pm (free; tickets required)
Timon Screech, professor of the history of art at SOAS University of London, will present a lecture titled “Into the Kaleidoscope: Painting in Edo Japan.” Curator Rachel Saunders and professor Yukio Lippit will offer a brief introduction to the exhibition before the lecture. Tickets for the lecture will be available on February 4 through the Harvard Box Office. Seating will begin at 5:15pm.
