Mention the city of Boston to saxophonists across the nation and the name George Garzone invariably springs to their lips. A respected teacher and general inspiration, this local legend remains a beacon of hard-won virtuosity and open-eared creativity. Garzone is currently teaching at the Berklee College of Music. He has pioneered the triadic chromatic approach and noted students of his have included Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis, Teodross Avery, Luciana Souza, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin, Doug Yates and Danilo Perez, to name a few. George has performed with many prominent artists, too many to name.
Parallels with John Coltrane are inevitable since Garzone is indeed a living legacy of Coltrane’s saxophone mastery - which he displays so well while also bringing his own original approach and gusto to the music.
"I'm not the master of the sax, George Garzone is." -Michael Brecker
