Previously, Dr. Abbott was dean of College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University. In following years Dr. Abbott carried out many impressive accomplishments, one of which, was being the recipient of the Jim Gray eScience Award; an award that is presented to a nationally recognized researcher who has made outstanding contributions to data-intensive computing. Now, Mark Abbott is currently President and Director of WHOI, Woods Hole, MA. Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is one of the world's largest private organizations in ocean research.
