Weekend Concert Series: Lawrence Brownlee, Tenor

Presented by Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum at Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

PROGRAM - GARDNER MUSEUM DEBUT
Robert Schumann, Dichterliebe (text by Heinrich Heine) (1840)
Tyshawn Sorey, The Cycles of My Being (text by Terrance Hayes) (2017)
Boston premiere
Post-concert conversation with Lawrence Brownlee and Helga Davis

International opera star Lawrence Brownlee brings his golden voice to the greatest of the 19th-century song cycles. Schumann’s Dichterliebe (“A Poet's Love”) pours out the aspiration, melancholy, joy, and stormy passion of an artist’s life in 16 potent songs. As he took up Schumann’s masterpiece, Brownlee was inspired to commission poet Terrance Hayes and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Tyshawn Sorey to create a companion song cycle “that centers on what it means to be an African-American man living in America today.”

Friends of Fenway Court Patrons are invited to receive complimentary tickets and join us for a private reception after the concert.
