Jazz pianist Yoko Miwa appears in historic West Falmouth Library as part of a series to support restoration of the Library’s 100 year old grand piano.
Get ready for an internationally acclaimed straight ahead jazz pianist and composer who delivers the goods!
Ms. Miwa came to Boston to study jazz at the Berklee School of Music after the 1995 earthquake in her native Kobe, Japan where she was classically trained at the Kobe Conservatory. She has been a rising star in the jazz world since then. She has played at top clubs like Scullers, Birdland, and the BlueNote and appears at major jazz festivals.
She and her trio have recorded eight jazz albums. Her 2019 release Keep Talkin’ was rated one of Downbeat Jazz Magazine’s Best of 2019 in the four star category. The CD reached #4 on nationwide radio charts. JazzTimes reviewed the album, noting her “jaw-dropping degree of technique.” In a 2017 feature article, Downbeat described her as having an “…Oscar Peterson-ish hard swing with a Bill Evans-ish introspection.”
Now an Associate Professor at Berklee, Ms. Miwa was just awarded Jazz Artist of the Year honors in the Boston Music Awards competition. She made her first appearance in Falmouth at Highfield Hall and Gardens as part of JazzFest Falmouth in 2013 and performed to a sold out crowd at Highfield two years ago.
Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online
