Cantemus Chorus Reschedules Holiday Concerts to January

For only the second time in over 30 years, Cantemus Chamber Chorus postponed its scheduled December concerts. The “Star-Made Shadows” programs originally planned for December in Beverly and Newburyport are moved to Saturday, January 11 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 High Street in Newburyport and Sunday, January 12 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4 Ocean Street in Beverly.

The celebrated Magnificat in G minor by Antonio Vivaldi’s highlights this year’s holiday “Star-Made Shadows” concerts by Cantemus Chamber Chorus, accompanied by strings and organ. Vivaldi’s lesser known but highly acclaimed setting of Psalm 116, Laudate Dominum, a work Artistic Director Jane Ring Frank describes as “a little but mighty piece of music” is an added bonus. Contemporary works on the program include Peter Anglea’s jaunty Jubilate Deo and Phil Mattson’s jazzy renditions of familiar holiday carols. Cantemus also presents two pieces by the young Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo: Tundra and Across the Vast Eternal Sky. The program closes with Morten Lauridsen’s deeply moving Sure on This Shining Night.

Come hear “Star-Made Shadows” on Sat., January 11, 7:30 pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport and Sun., January 12, 4:00 pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Beverly. Tickets may be purchased on Cantemus’ website, www.cantemus.org., or at the door; $25, $20 for seniors, and free for those under 21.
