The Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice features exceptional musicians from Berklee in a performance with Grammy award-winning drummer Terri Lyne Carrington and DownBeat Magazine award-winners Kris Davis and Linda May Han Oh.
Students studying in the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice perform with Grammy-winning drummer, producer, and educator Terri Lyne Carrington; composer and bassist Linda May Han Oh; and composer and pianist Kris Davis.
The concert is in partnership with WBGO and will be part of The Checkout - Live at Berklee hosted by Simon Retner. The mission of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice is to recruit, teach, mentor, and advocate for musicians seeking to study jazz with gender equity as a guiding principle.
Founded by Terri Lyne Carrington, who also serves as the artistic director, the institute seeks to engage in the mission of making an important and long-lasting cultural shift in jazz and other music communities. The concert will announce and feature songs from the standards book of women composers the institute is creating. Compositions will be by artists Esperanza Spalding, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Tia Fuller, Linda May Han Oh, Kris Davis, and Terri Lyne Carrington.
