The South Shore Natural Science Center is excited to announce the exhibit “Owl Quest” by Massachusetts photographer Mark Wilson.  The show opens November 19, 2019 and runs through January 5, 2020 in the Vine Hall Gallery.  The Opening Reception will be Saturday, November 23 from 3-5pm in the Vine Hall Gallery.

Wildlife photojournalist Mark Wilson presents a photo exhibit of all 19 species of owls that call the United States and Canada home. From the iconic Snowy Owl on it’s arctic tundra nest to the tiny, too-cute Elf Owl peering from a saguaro cactus in the Sonoran desert, you’ll see owls up close and personal. To produce this exhibition and his children’s book Owling: Enter the World of the Mysterious Birds of the Night, Wilson traveled widely across the United States and Canada to spend time in the company of owls. You can spend time in the company of a live owl or two at the Owl Quest reception and book signing on Saturday, November 23 from 3-5pm.

Mark brings “the heart of a photographer and the eye of a biologist” to his work so it tells the story of the birds and helps the viewer learn “who their wild neighbors are”.  Many owls can be found in eastern Massachusetts while others prefer the deserts and tundra.  Mark and his wife, Marcia, present live owl programs to schools and community groups, helping people have a better understanding of the natural world around them and how their actions affect the other creatures who call our area home.

The Vine Hall Gallery is a multi-use space that provides a place for local artists to share their artwork depicting the natural world (please call ahead for viewing availability).  Programs and exhibits in Vine Hall are partially funded through a Cultural Investment Portfolio Grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
