Celebrate Remembrance of Climate Futures/Arlington, a public art project exploring the impact of climate change and strategies for resilience, plus preview Kari Percival’s poster designs for action! Live music, refreshments, meet the artists!
Gather at Arlington High School to celebrate the completion of an ambitious 18-month project: Remembrance of Climate Futures/Arlington. Twelve interns from Arlington High School developed 23 "historic" markers imagining the future impacts of climate change -- record heat, flooding, emotional challenges. Through the markers, interns also envision hopeful strategies for resilience -- planting thousands of trees, creating a support center, and tackling the climate crisis with a comprehensive K-12 curriculum.
At this festive event, congratulate the interns and meet project artist Tom Starr, who conceived of the idea of using commemorative markers to sound the alarm on future changes. Enjoy music by Arlington High School's Honors Orchestra and Jazz Band, pizza donated by Za Restaurant, and a display of artwork related to the project.
We'll also celebrate new poster designs by ArtsArlington artist-in-residence Kari Percival. "There's No Place Like Home," her residency project, consists of vibrant playful posters supporting the good work of Arlington community groups, including ArMI, Food Link, Friends of Spy Pond Park, Mystic River Watershed Association, and Sustainable Arlington. Meet Kari and see her original illustrations highlighting the messages and mission of these wonderful organizations.
