The Boston Theatre Celebration is a one-day, non-competitive opportunity for Boston high school students to share work, receive feedback, and forge connections with students in other schools that can lead to collaboration for years to come.
Open to city high schools – both public and private. Each school will create a theatrical presentation under 40 minutes in length that may include a one-act play, individual scenes and monologues, songs, or improv sketches. Each school will be provided with a common set of set pieces: 2 doorways, 4 chairs, 1 square table, and 4 cubes. What you and your students do with those limited means will be a window into your creativity and innovation. There will be no charge to participating schools or to audience members.
Each performance will receive a live, on-stage feedback session with METG adjudicators chosen from a pool of working theatre professionals and educators in Boston. Adjudicators will recognize outstanding students, and students will collaborate to create tributes and celebrations of each other’s work. Throughout the day, students will have structured opportunities to meet and make new friends with other students.
