Bluegrass and Blues in Wrentham

Bluegrass and Blues in Wrentham

Presented by OCC Coffeehouse, Original Congregational Church at OCC Coffeehouse, Original Congregational Church

A combination of Bluegrass and Delta Blues will be featured at OCC Coffeehouse, Original Congregational Church, in Wrentham, MA, 7:30 PM, Saturday, June 3. Blackstone Valley Bluegrass, a high energy, entertaining performer of both traditional and contemporary bluegrass, will be the main act. Opening for them will be New Hampshire based Baza, an award-winning harmonica and guitar blues duo. Come check out Blackstone Valley Bluegrass to hear some great bluegrass music, smooth harmonies, fast but tasteful pickin', and most importantly, to have a great time! With Dave Dick on banjo, his brother Bob Dick on guitar, Dan Nowlan on mandolin and Ken Taylor on upright bass, this original lineup has been together for 15 years - rare for bluegrass bands these days. Over the years this seasoned group has built up a solid and ever expanding repertoire to go along with an engaging stage performance; these guys can really mix things up musically and entertain an audience! They're all multi-instrumentalists and play a wide range of bluegrass styles. But what really sets them apart are their powerful three and four part harmonies.

New Hampshire based Baza celebrates the tradition of the harmonica and guitar blues duo. Winners of the 2017 Granite State Blues Challenge, solo/duo category, Doug Philbrook, guitar, vocals and foot percussion and Geof “Goody” Goodell, harmonica and vocals, celebrate and perform the blues from the rich fertile region of the Mississippi Delta to the low rolling hills of the East Coast Piedmont area. Together they conjure the sounds of the “Deep Blues” with wailing harmonica, sharp vocal harmonies and driving steel guitar rhythms. They play songs of hard living, love, loss and celebration with deep respect and affection. Their performances paint a picture of the blues through the songs and stories of its pioneers and the times they lived.
