Social distancing protects our community and loved ones from the spread of COVID-19, but these measures have created an immediate financial obstacle for local artists in Greater Boston. Shuttered theaters and venues, restrictive limits on gathering sizes, and abrupt closures of restaurants and retailers have cut tours short and limited sources of vital income.
You can still support artists in the meantime to ensure a vibrant and robust recovery when we can finally gather in our community galleries, concert halls, and theaters. If you’re looking for ways to support the Boston-area arts scene, consider donating to one of these local relief funds.
The Boston Artist Relief Fund was established by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture with the Boston Center for the Arts to award grants of $500 and $1,000 to individual artists who live in Boston whose creative practices and incomes are being adversely impacted by Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Local arts service organization Boston Dance Alliance is providing emergency stipends of $250 to freelance dancers, choreographers, and dance teachers in any dance genre to assist with immediate basic needs. Donate Here.
The Record Co. established a fund to provide financial relief up to $200 to Boston area music makers experiencing lost income as the result of performance cancellations related to COVID-19. Donate Here.
Established by Boston Singers Resource, this emergency fund provides grants up to $500 for New England-based singers whose classical performances were canceled due to concerns over COVID-19. Donate Here.
Established by the Cambridge Community Foundation in partnership with the City of Cambridge, this relief fund provides financial relief to mitigate the loss of income to artists and arts organizations affected by closures and cancelations due to COVID-19. To assist musicians in our community who are in dire need of financial aid due to cancelations and social distancing recommendations, Club Passim established an emergency artist relief fund granting up to $500 to musicians. Donate Here.
For many puppeteers, teaching artists, and creative employees, social distancing means months of lost income due to canceled classes and events. Puppet Showplace Theater is currently excepting donations to supports puppeteers, vulnerable arts workers, and ongoing creative operations. Donate Here.
The TCBF provides financial relief to individual theater practitioners and non-profit theater organizations of Greater Boston. The fund offers up to between $500 and $1,500 for individual theatre workers and $1,000 and $6,000 in relief to theatre companies. Donate Here.
