The largest community school for the arts in Massachusetts, South Shore Conservatory (SSC) incorporated in 1970 as a community music school in Hingham. In 1980, a second campus was established in Duxbury, and in 1996, moved to The Ellison Center for the Arts. SSC’s mission to enrich lives through a quality education in the arts currently serves more than 2,000 South Shore students of all ages and skill levels participating in over 50 programs. These offerings include individual lessons in most instruments and voice, an arts-principled preschool and full-day kindergarten, drama workshops, monthly recital and concert opportunities, and a variety of performing opportunities with chamber music, jazz, rock, wind, choral and percussion ensembles and our new youth orchestra. Ample facilities allow for professional rehearsal and performance space in studios and the state-of-the-art Jane C. Carr amphitheater. SSC also hosts the renowned Summer Music Festival, Duxbury Music Festival, the popular outdoor summer concert series Evenings Under the Stars; as well as performances by resident opera company Opera by the Bay. South Shore Conservatory is a full member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
