The Du Bois Orchestra, named after W.E.B. Du Bois, Harvard’s first black PhD student, was founded in 2015. With a mission of making music a means to overcome social exclusion, the Du Bois Orchestra is Cambridge’s premier professional orchestra. Performing to large, diverse audiences, the ensemble elevates underrepresented composers by performing their works alongside the traditional orchestral masterworks.
Entering its 8th season, the orchestra has established a reputation for musical excellence, world class soloists, engaging programming, and diverse audiences.
In 2020, the Du Bois Orchestra entered a new chapter with the announcement of conductor Dominique Hoskin as the new music director, succeeding Nathaniel Meyer (2017-2020) and Kai Johannes Polzhofer (2015-2017).
