CAPOEIRA (ka-poo-eyh-da) An Afro-Brazilian martial artself-defense form that incorporates acrobatics, dance, percussion,and songs in a rhythmic dialogue of body, mind, and spirit. Unique to Brazil, Capoeira developed during the slavery era through shared cultural customs, rituals, and fighting techniques.Capoeira has evolved to be an internationally respected martial art of grace and strength practiced worldwide. CLASS DESCRIPTION New students can start at any time. There are no prerequisites, you simply need the desire to show up and do your best. Capoeira classes provide vigorous training in the ABADÁ-Capoeira technique. It is a technical, mental, musical, and acrobatic workout. Classes are structured to meet ALL student’s needs and levels. Typically, you can expect a class to include a warm-up period using basic capoeira movements and stretches, instruction and practice of specific movements and sequences focused on technique, purpose, and proper usage, partner work focused on strategy, strength exercises to improve form and performance, and finally a roda. During the roda students are encouraged to learn and practice the instruments, songs, rituals and etiquette of the roda, as well as taking turns playing with a partner in the roda.
