World premiere opera set in historical dustbowl era migrant camp, with libretto by Grammy winner Bill Harley and music by Paul Phillips. A show for every age, with a talented inter-generational cast from all over greater Boston.
Commissioned by the North Cambridge Family Opera, and set at the historical Weedpatch School, this musical show will inform and please audiences of all ages. The production follows the struggles and triumphs of these migrants (Okies) as they overcome the hostility of the settled Californians. Weedpatch School was built and run by the environmental refugees fleeing the dustbowl (1930-36). This fascinating story is brought to life in this folk inflected and highly accessible opera.
