We Try to Live Together

We Try to Live Together brings audiences together to explore the issues that drive us apart. Callie Chapman, Michael Figueroa, Megham McLyman & Kristen Duffy Young, Marsha Parrilla, Catherine Siller, and J Michael Winward present personal and political works addressing themes of migration, gender, identity, and interior space. Audiences move between the Plaza Theatre and Black Box Theatre of the Boston Center for the Arts, converging in the lobby where a cash bar will be available. Through a carefully choreographed collision of people and ideas, perspectives start to shift. We learn to live together–and dream together–even if we disagree. 

These artists began working together through the 2018/2019 Next Steps for Boston Dance cohort, an opportunity created in partnership between The Boston Foundation and the Aliad Fund. Over an eighteen month period, each choreographer was provided funding, rehearsal space, and mentorship, and invited to take the “next step” in their respective careers. Through additional support of the cohort model, they discovered where their interests intersected, and where they diverged.
