The Range of Light

The Metropolitan Chorale presents The Range of Light, featuring the world premiere of “Yosemite: Impressions of Light and Shadow\”, a choral work by Ēriks Ešenvalds.

In honor of music director Lisa Graham\’s 20th year with the Metropolitan Chorale, we present a commissioned work by Ēriks Ešenvalds celebrating Lisa\’s childhood home: Yosemite National Park. Ešenvalds composed some of our favorite pieces performed in prior concerts (including Passion and Ressurection in 2013 and Stars in 2022) and we are thrilled to be the first to present this work to the world.

The program will also include: Naturaleza by Francisco J. Núñez, The Peace of Wild Things and Come to the Woods by Jake Runestad, Until It’s Gone by The Swingles, and Sunrise by Ben Parry.

The Metropolitan Chorale is pleased to participate in the Card to Culture Program by extending discounts to EBT card holders. EBT Card holders receive FREE tickets to our performances. This program is a collaboration between the Mass Cultural Council and the Executive Office of Health and Human Services’ Department of Transitional Assistance.

Our venue is fully accessible.

First Church in Cambridge is located at 11 Garden St., which is at the corner of Garden and Mason streets, just across Mason Street from the old Radcliffe campus and just across Garden Street from the historic Cambridge Common. We are right next door to the Sheraton Commander Hotel.

By Car: Parking is limited, but available spots can usually be found along the residential streets near the church. Convenient and reasonably priced parking is available at University Place Garage. The garage entrance is located on your right at the end of University Road off of Mount Auburn Street, behind the Charles Hotel. Please note that this garage is separate from the Charles Hotel garage.

By Train: The closest T stop is Harvard Square. For those traveling by T, if you leave the station at the main exit into the heart of Harvard Square, cross Massachusetts Avenue directly across from the station and go right, following the street until the corner with Garden Street. Go left at Garden and stay on that street until you come to the corner of Mason Street.

You can also take the Church Street exit out of the Harvard T stop, which is at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Church Street. You will already have crossed Massachusetts Avenue underground, so from that exit, go right and follow the same path as above, crossing Church Street and the next corner is Garden Street. Go left there and stay on Garden Street until you come to the corner of Mason Street.
