The Inside Story - Tutti Bassi

Music at Eden’s Edge (www.edensedge.org), the North Shore’s own regional resident chamber music ensemble presents Music Speaks! The Inside Story, a free series of lecture/performances in the newly renovated Barn at Peirce Farm at Witch Hill in Topsfield, MA. It is a special privilege for MEE to be able to share with our audiences live music in an intimate setting. This season, we explore an added dimension with The Inside Story, revealing a deeper understanding of the music by sharing social and cultural context, special pieces of historical background, or quirky factoids about its provenance.

In Tutti Bassi, our third concert in the series, MEE takes a fascinating turn backwards in time to solo and duo works in the lower string registers from the 16^th to 18^th centuries. MEE cellist Sarah Freiberg and well-known Boston cellist Colleen McGary-Smith will present an attractive and unusual bouquet of rich, diverse pieces featuring both the delicate color of the viola da gamba as well as the heartier sound of the cello. Colleen has performed with MEE in the past, and we are excited to welcome her back as part of the Duo Tutti Bassi. This Duo has been presented in multiple venues throughout New England, and MEE is delighted to include their unique presentation in our lecture/performance series.
