Inspired by the colorful symphonic masterpiece Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the Cape Symphony will reimagine the empowering art of storytelling through the lens of female voices.
The concert includes the world premiere of "Within My Soul: Scheherazade Reimagined" by Iranian composer and musician Niloufar Shiri, performing with the orchestra on the kamāncheh, a traditional Iranian string instrument. And in “Today’s Storyteller: A Collaboration with the Moth,” award-winning writer Wang Ping will present her Moth Radio Hour story, "The Book War," about how she survived the oppression of the Chinese cultural revolution by starting a banned book club.
