The debut concert of Now Music – Poetry, Portraits & Light – Music for Viola and Guitar features Aaron alongside boundary-breaking Chicago-based violist Michael Hall. The pair will perform duos and solos exploring repertoire recently written for them by Francine Trester of the Berklee College of Music and Brazilian Antonio Celso Ribeiro. Trester’s ‘Borrowed Blue’ is inspired by her own poetic texts and explores color and imagery, and ‘Three Vintage Portraits’ by Ribeiro is rhapsodic in melodies and rhythmic pulse. A third duo by American composer Samuel Adler ‘Into the Radiant Boundaries of Light’, rounds out the pair’s music.
Hall, who founded the first professional orchestra in Indonesia, will perform a worldly selection of recently written viola solos by Kee Yong Chong (Malaysia), Paul Coletti (UK), Arshia Samsaminia (Iran), Jim Mobberley (USA). Larget-Caplan will performs composer Kevin Siegfried (Boston Conservatory at Berklee), and the lyrical music of John Cage from Aaron’s latest recording project ‘John. Cage. Guitar.’
As the music is new or not well-known the duo will introduce the music and the composers throughout the concert. For those who are curious about how dots on the page make sounds from the instruments, composers Francine Trester and Kevin Siegfried will be in attendance as well.
Now Musique is the culmination of multiple passions of the founder Aaron Larget-Caplan: music that reflects on our time, collaboration with composers and performers, and community. Come and join us for the new endeavor and take part in its growth!
