Music of the Waterlines: Stories of Urban Ebb and Flow

On Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 3:00 pm, Boston-based Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble presents an immersive musical program in conjunction with the exhibit Waterlines: Stories of Urban Ebb and Flow at Somerville Museum. In collaboration with curator Arlinda Shtuni, newly rendered artworks by five renowned local artists invite us to consider the ecological, spiritual, and social dimensions of water, and ask us to reawaken our personal connection to it. Dinosaur Annex musicians will present a program of notated and improvised works which complement – and react to – the art and space.

Carolyn Chen’s striking Drown for soprano (and water-filled fish tank!) and Julien Malaussena’s 8 Mins after Boiling elucidate the striking and dramatic qualities of water as source material and as metaphor. inti figgis-vizueta’s placing ceremony highlights the connection between sound and colonization. Incisive solo works by Kati Agócs and Marcos Balter, and Nomi Epstein’s sonically fragile All Are Above Us, round out the program.
