Professor Emeritus Jeffery Howe taught a wide range of courses in the history of art and architecture during his forty-year career at Boston College. He served as departmental chair of the Art, Art History, and Film Department for many years, as well as associate editor of the journal of Religion and the Arts from 1996–2008. In 1998, Professor Howe was instrumental in founding the University Arts Council, which organizes the annual arts festival on campus, and served as its chair until 2010. Dr. Howe, who retired in May 2018, also curated several exhibitions at the McMullen Museum of Art during his time at Boston College and was the author or editor of numerous books and published essays.
