Love birds or not…, be sure to flock to Loading Dock Gallery this June. Just Married at the Loading Dock Gallery from June 2 to June 27, celebrates love with art— cheerful, elegant, and inspired. Carolyn Lee Cook creates art prints of her paper airplane series and a handmade quilt inspired by her son and daughter-in-law’s wedding. Betsy Keeney creates elegant jewelry to wear or give. Laura Massei’s hand lettering supports love with words on canvas. Vivian Rosalee adds whimsy with paintings of animals dressed for a wedding. Whether shopping for unique gifts for the wedding party or art to enliven a happy couple’s home, Just Married has something for you.
Carolyn Lee Cook prints, paints, and sews colorful art inspired by family, friends, nature, “and life in general.” Her paper airplane series in Just Married grew out of love for her son and daughter-in-law, air traffic controllers, living far away. The series includes a quilt made from fabric originally purchased for her son when he was in middle school. “I thought of him and his new bride so often while working on this series.” Cook lives in Billerica, MA and teaches art to middle and high school in Lexington. In addition to her studio at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell, MA, she uses “every spare table at home.”
Betsy Keeney of Centre Village Studio presents jewelry suitable for weddings or any joyous event. Her pieces feature elements inspired by nature, such as lotus, cherry, and dogwood blossoms. They also reference leaves and abstract forms. Working with precious metals, particularly gold and silver, Keeney incorporates subtle texture in her designs, as well as accenting some of her pieces with pearls or gemstones. Primarily self-taught, Keeney loves to experiment. She teaches at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College in Manchester, NH. Keeney worked from a studio at Western Ave Studios for thirteen years. She now lives and works in Pepperell, MA. Her jewelry makes the wearer feel special, and will stand the test of time.
Laura Massei of July Design marries words and color in artwork that inspires and celebrates faith, hope & love. Her work is as uplifting as a song. In Just Married, Massei presents hand lettered messages of love on large canvases, integrating them with joyful abstract painting. A member of Western Avenue Studios for two years, Massei now works out of her home studio in Nashua, NH. For Massei, making art is a way to stay inspired. “And if I need to be inspired, maybe someone else does too.”
Vivian Rosalee loves animals, real and imagined. Her Just Married pieces present animals all dressed up for the wedding. The animals, painted in ink, feel both whimsical and elegant. “Many people love animals and have pets, and they are often included in the wedding celebrations in some way. That’s why I am painting animals in wedding attire – suits, wedding dresses, flowers, etc. Animals are even cuter dressed up in fancy attire!” Rosalee has a BFA from Lesley University. She shares a studio space at Western Avenue Studios with her mother, Carolyn Lee. She donates 10% of her profits to either the Central Food Ministry in Lowell, or a parrot rehab center (Happy Wings Sanctuary) in Virginia.
Just Married runs June 2-27, 2021 at Loading Dock Gallery, 122 Western Avenue, Lowell, MA. Join a Meet and Greet event Saturday, June 5, 3-5 PM.
