JLive Art: Rachel Hammerman makes clay mezuzot

Join JArts’ latest JLive Art streaming event with artist Rachel Hammerman. Hammerman studied studio art and religion at Mount Holyoke College, and completed a year course in painting and drawing at The Slade School of Art at The University College of London.

For the past four years she has been engrossed in the art of mezuzah making; playing with how, and what it means, to hang a marker of one’s history in the threshold [literally] of one’s present reality. She is greatly influenced by old master drawings, well captioned cartoons, and by the drive to arrest a thousand moments, and call them only one.
