Marianne Solivan conducts a Vocal Master Class at The Mad Monkfish!

Marianne Solivan is a internationally touring Jazz vocalist, composer, bandleader & educator. She has worked with luminaries including Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Peter Bernstein, Jeremy Pelt, Lewis Nash, Johnathan Blake and Bruce Barth. She spent her school days gigging constantly, while at Berklee College of Music and then the New England Conservatory, where she earned her Master’s degree. Those early years enabled her to hone her skills as a band leader as well as amass a huge repertoire that can challenge any song hound. Solivan has taught all grade levels for over 18 years and currently runs her own Jazz Vocal Workshop Series in NYC. Her first CD Prisoner of Love received critical acclaim and a 4 star review from Downbeat Magazine in 2012 & her 2nd CD SPARK was released in 2015 to critical acclaim. She consistantly tours the US and abroad. Solivan’s teaching style is clear confident and honest. She has a unique ability to pinpoint issues and find a way to work on them. Her knowledge of vocal technique, theory, ear training, and improvisation help her to see and hear what a singer needs to work on on find ways to move their development forward. This master class will will focus on issues that all Jazz vocalists face; phrasing, time, telling the story and improvisation, whether scatting or over the melody. Singers will have the opportunity to sing with an accompanist and will get personal direct feedback. Auditing students will be able to see how each singers approach differs and get useful tips on how to better their own singing.
