This exhibition presents the recently acquired portfolio of nineteenth century German artist Max Klinger’s Intermezzi—a playful collection of prints featuring fantastical subjects from mythology and German literature.

German artist Max Klinger (1857-1920) has long been celebrated for his imaginative print cycles that blend innovative compositions with often fantastical subjects. A recent acquisition by the Davis, the playful plates of Klinger’s Intermezzi cycle present the artist’s unique blend of romanticism and symbolism, and demonstrate his extraordinary facility with intaglio printing.
