Called “a startingly virtuosic and accessible string duet” by renowned GRAMMY-winning fiddler Darol Anger, this dynamic Boston-based husband-and-wife duo has been playing together since 2007. Their diverse and exciting show gives audiences a glimpse into their musical world with traditional and original music that draws from their Celtic, Americana, and Classical roots: inventive treatments of modern pop songs, classical crossover covers, and original compositions and songs that range from deeply soulful to intelligently playful.
Hanneke Cassel is a sought-after performer and internationally renowned fiddle teacher who has graced stages across North America, Europe, Australia, India, and China. She has been featured at numerous festivals in Scotland, Canada, the US, and Australia, and has performed on PBS with Boston-based fiddle band Childsplay; with Baroque/Celtic group Ensemble Galilei at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (with former NPR ‘Talk of the Nation’ host Neal Conan); and the National Geographic in Washington, D.C. (with actor Bill Pullman). She has made guest appearances with Cherish the Ladies, Matt Glaser & the Wayfaring Strangers, Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, and Joey McIntyre (New Kids on the Block.)
Mike Block is a pioneering multi-style cellist, singer, composer, and educator. Hailed by Yo-Yo Ma as the “ideal musician of the 21st-Century,” Mike is part of the GRAMMY-award winning Silk Road Ensemble, a graduate of the Juilliard School, and an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music. He is also an active recording artist of original material, folk music, cross-cultural collaborations, and has collaborated with a variety of diverse musicians and groups, such as Mark O’Connor, Bobby McFerrin, The New York Philharmonic, Will.i.am, Edgar Meyer, Stevie Wonder, Darol Anger, Allison Krauss, Zakir Hussain, The National, Bon Iver, Rachel Barton Pine, Dawn Upshaw, Lenny Kravitz, Shakira, Joe Zawinul, Alasdair Fraser, Shujaat Khan, and many others.
