Hansel and Gretel

Due Donne Productions presents Engelbert Humperdinck’s opera Hansel and Gretel (sung in English) at Bethany Congregational Church. This is the company’s first production, and is cast with students from the New England Conservatory. Performances in Quincy are Friday August 9th and Saturday August 10th at 7:30PM. Additional performances the previous weekend are in Somerville, MA at the Arts at the Armory at 8PM. All performances are free with suggested donation.

Hansel and Gretel is the age-old tale of two children getting lost in the woods, only to find a house of candy home to an evil witch. Humperdinck’s opera, written in 1893, features references to German folk music underscored by lush harmonies. One of the most notable moments of the opera is the “Evening Prayer,” sung Hansel and Gretel. The opera is in three acts with one intermission.
