Communities of Song: Virtually Together

This annual event brings together five diverse community choruses (Wesley Chancel Choir, Shir Joy Chorus, Wesley Ghanaian Choir, Band of Voices Chorus, and Wesley Young People’s Choir). Covid necessitated cancellation of the concert last year. This year, all participating chorus members worked virtually at home and in group COVID-safe parking lot rehearsals recorded in our cars to create this unique virtual concert. Our selections are uplifting and are sung in English, Hebrew, Twi (Ghanaian dialect) and/or Yiddish. We welcome your participation from the comfort of your own living room.

The concert runs from 4:00pm-5:30pm on Zoom and is preceded by an optional Singer Roundtable discussion from 3:00 pm-4:00pm that focuses on the importance of song and how we have adapted and grown as singers during the pandemic. Admission is free but all donated proceeds will be directed to the Pastoral Counseling Center to provide financial assistance for mental health counseling for needy MA residents. Pre-registration prior to 2:30 pm May 16 is required (to preregister go to shirjoychorus.com to receive an email with the Zoom link to the concert). A Singer Roundtable discussion open to all singers to discuss the way the different choral groups adapted to singing during the pandemic will begin at 3:00 pm. This event was imagined and assembled by Choral Director Nan Gibbons with technical assistance from Warren Huber.  Funding for this concert has been provided by the Jewish Federation of Central MA, Avidia Bank, Westborough Cultural Council, the Massachusetts Cultural Council and individual donors.
