“On the Landing” opens by inviting us to join a woman making her way through her ruined hometown in southeastern Europe, recalling the colorful customs of yesteryear—and the night everything changed.
Ellen Cassedy, an alumna of the Yiddish Book Center's Translation Fellowship program, will discuss and read from her new translation, “On the Landing: Stories by Yenta Mash.” Yenta Mash (1922-2013) was a giant of Yiddish women's writing, a prize-winning writer whose work has never before been available in English. Her largely autobiographical stories are engaging and keenly relevant to our current moment, when displaced people seek refuge across the globe.
