Annual Spring Planting Moon Pow-wow

The Spring Planting Moon Festival is an annual event that has taken place at the Marshfield Fairgrounds for 26 years. Supported and embraced by the local residents and those from the surrounding towns, the festival is open to the public. We share and celebrate our rich Native American Culture with everyone through music, art and dance. The two-day event includes various types of Native American music and dance some of which the audience can sit back and enjoy or get up and share in the experience. This year we will feature The Kalpulli Aztec Indian Dancers of NYC, a professional dance group that performs throughout the Country. These high impact dances honor centuries of indigenous culture and traditions. Listen to Eddie as he explains the meaning behind the dances. Other activities include drumming and singing by the Eastern Suns Singers, and the Split Feather Singers… the drum groups are the heartbeat of the festival providing the songs for the dancers to dance to. Showcased during the festival are art displays, an Eastern conical wigwam set up with a display of handmade bark baskets, there will be traditional craft-making demonstrations as well as storytelling for the children. And finally we have vendors selling Native American arts, crafts and food. This program is funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Festivals Program.
