Afro-Colombian Music, Culture and Politics: A Conversational Concert with Canalón de Timbiquí

This concert brings together Colombian group Canalón de Timbiquí and Afro-Colombian music expert and Chair of Boston University Musicology & Ethnomusicology Michael Birenbaum Quintero to perform and talk about Afro-Colombian music and culture.

Hailing from the town of Timbiquí on the Pacific coast of Colombia, Grupo Canalón, embodies traditional Afro-Colombian music. The voice of lead singer Nidia Góngora blends felicitously with the African-style chanting of a female chorus, backed by marimba and traditional percussion.
