Norwood Theatre

Norwood Theatre

The Norwood Theatre is a newly renovated performing arts center in Norwood, MA. The theatre seats 731 audience members – 449 in the auditorium and 282 in the balcony. Featuring state-of-the-art sound and lighting consoles as well as a retractable 31’x15’ movie screen, the facility is equipped to host a wide variety of performing artists.

The theatre was originally built in 1926 and 1927 by the Premier Theatre Company. The building was designed by Norwood native William G. Upham, who also designed the old Norwood High School. The architecture is a 20th-century Spanish Romanesque adaptation, closely related to the Gothic style of the Town Hall and surrounding churches.

The Norwood Theatre came under its current ownership in 2010. A careful two-year restoration brought the theatre back to its former glory and included modern additions like a geothermal climate control system and an energy efficient elevator. The theatre re-opened on August 31, 2012, 85 years to the day after the opening of the original Norwood Theatre.
