Welcome to Mistral (formerly Andover Chamber Music), a unique chamber music series founded by Julie Scolnik and her husband, Michael Brower, 17 years ago! As you know, Mistral is the name of the powerful Provencal wind that blows through the French countryside, unsettling people and getting under their skin. For Julie, the name embodies its mysterious, powerful quality conveyed in the movie, Chocolat, where people are never the same after experiencing it. Mistral has long been the name of our ensemble-in- residence, and the name we have used when performing in series outside of Andover, but, as we have been building a loyal following in Boston and other towns, we feel that transitioning to Mistral as the name of the organization itself will simplify who we are. When you come to a Mistral concert you are stepping into our living room for a couple of hours to share what is important to us, both in music and in life. From Proust readings about memory and love, to “The Gypsy Spirit,” “Voices of Nature,” and “Souvenirs from Abroad,” our concerts find common threads in programs which merge the old with the new and try to transport you to new emotional heights. Julie Scolnik, as Artistic Director, only program works when she is certain that you will love them as much as she does. We plan to keep our concerts unstuffy and fun, with plenty of high jinks, energy, and personal connection to you. Chamber music the way it’s supposed to be!
