Northeastern Crossing is the result of Northeastern University’s 2013 Institutional Master Plan (IMP). Community residents on the IMP Task Force – from Fenway, Mission Hill, South End, and Roxbury – worked with the University community to create a space that provides:

  • University resources to area residents at no cost,
  • Opportunities for community residents to learn about and explore opportunities at Northeastern, and
  • A venue for the on-campus and off-campus communities to develop programming that fosters new personal and professional networks.

Northeastern Crossing operates under the Office of City and Community Affairs, the University’s primary liaison to residents, civic leaders, and neighborhood groups. This department oversees five series as part of its Bridge Experience, a collection of interactive programming designed to build community and foster collaborative networks between individuals from the on-campus and off-campus communities:

  • Storytelling: film screenings, panel discussions, and artist receptions that share personal stories and promote understanding of our collective experiences;
  • Skills Building: classes and trainings offering opportunities for personal and professional growth involving creative writing, financial literacy, career preparation and more;
  • Self-care & Wellness: one-hour sessions featuring yoga, tai chi, and nutrition workshops with experienced wellness practitioners;
  • Immersion: wholly interactive experiences that draw upon the three areas above and use audience participation to enhance the content;
  • South Campus Gateway: efforts are in progress to activate the outdoor public spaces around International Village with seasonal programming that will involve music, art, and recreational activities.
